Before I Became a Great Writer

One thing I have always
Longed for is this: To be
Lured into a room that is
Actually a bookshop which is also
A cafe which is also a record bar
Which is also a resto or a wine cellar
Which is also a deli by the voice of a lady
Who sounds a lot like Norah Jones
Or Nina Simone or Aretha Franklin
Or Eydie Gorme or Gracinha Leporace
Or a guy who sounds a lot like
Bob Dylan or Jim Croce who is playing
The piano or the guitar or the harmonica
Or the saxophone or the violin or the cello
And to stand there in the middle of the place
For a minute and take in the scene
And absorb the sounds and survey
The crowd and then walk along
The bookcases while the music is
Playing and the lady is singing
And run my fingers across…
